Synopsis
When the world still suffers the consequences of the 1929 New York Stock Exchange crash, immigrants arrive in Brazil with the hope of building a better life. In 1931, Civita, Italy, a country devastated by war. Young Toni lives a forbidden love with Maria, daughter of a rival family. Unable to make a living and marry his love, Toni decides to try a new life in Brazil. He leaves Maria with a broken heart and promises to find her once he has settled. In this land of hope, Toni meets Camille, a beautiful Jew who finds a place in that lonely heart. Toni will then live tormented between his two loves.
The opening shows old images showing life at that time projected on a piano and on luggage representing migration to another country, then it is projected on the piano and on its sheet music the logo of the novel is shown. The opening is accompanied by the song "Esperança", performed in Italian by Laura Pausini (in the version aired in Brazil). In the international opening of "Terra Speranza" in Spanish, the song is performed in Spanish, although this version was not edited in the novel's discography. In the opening of "Terra Nostra 2 - La Speranza", the theme is performed in Italian
