When the world still suffers the consequences of the 1929 New York Stock Exchange crash, immigrants arrive in Brazil with the hope of building a better life. 1931, Cívita, Italy, a country devastated by war. Young Toni lives a forbidden love with Maria, daughter of a rival family. Unable to make a living and marry his love, Toni decides to try a new life in Brazil. He leaves Maria with a broken heart and promises to look for her when he is established. In this land of hope, Toni meets Camille, a beautiful Jew who finds a place in that lonely heart. Toni will then live tormented between his two loves.
