Valentina (Belinda) and Sebastián (Alfonso Herrera), "The Chameleons" are manipulated by "El Amo" (Manuel "Flaco" Ibáñez), making them steal art pieces and valuable jewels valued in millions of dollars, since if they do not comply with his demands, he has enough power to kill their loved ones, who are in jail. The purpose of ''El Amo'' is to outsmart Augusto Ponce de León (Guillermo García Cantú), who is the father of Solange (Sherlyn), separated from Francisca Campos (Edith González), a womanizer, police chief, and corrupt. He is in charge of the "Chameleon" case, and he has to solve it if he wants to reach a position in politics and have more power.
Valentina and Sebastián pretend to be a prefect and an Art History teacher, respectively, at San Bartolomé School, where Francisca and Augusto are the directors and owners of the school; this is where Solange studies and where the gardener Leónidas (Manuel "Flaco" Ibáñez), who turns out to be an undercover police officer and the former youth love of Francisca, plans to put Augusto in jail for his crimes and the death of his son, as he pushed him off a building and made everyone believe he had committed suicide. He develops a friendship with Valentina, Sebastián, Solange, and Ulises (Pee Wee), and from the school's basement, he is planning revenge against Augusto, for pretending to be something he is not. Ironically, all the main characters pretend to be someone else, hence the name Chameleons.
