Plot
The focus of the novel is on Milagros (Natalia Oreiro), the domestic worker of Mrs. Angélica (Lydia Lamaison). Angélica finds her adorable, but the rest of the family discriminates against her for her unrefined manners. They often try to fire her, but Angélica always intervenes to protect her. Milagros and Angélica develop a great friendship, Angélica teaches Milagros to behave like a lady and Milagros influences her with her simple and direct character.
Unbeknownst to her when she started working there, Federico DiCarlo (Arturo Maly) is the true father of Milagros, who had a relationship with Rosario, a former employee of his. Di Carlo was forced by his father to leave her and marry Luisa (Fernanda Mistral), also taking Luisa's son, Ivo (Facundo Arana), as his own. However, Ivo grows up unaware that Di Carlo is not his real father. While Di Carlo resigns himself to the situation, Angélica spends the next 20 years hoping to one day find her grandson. Rosario was the sister of Bernardo, who shared with Angélica the desire to find her nephew. Bernardo did not blame Di Carlo for what happened, he considered him another victim of the situation, and instead openly hated Luisa.
Originally, the first to discover the relationship between Milagros and Federico are the Father and Mother Superior of the convent where Milagros grew up, but they keep quiet foreseeing that its revelation could destroy that family. Milagros falls in love with Ivo, but their relationship is greatly complicated, not only by the situations described but also by Milagros' fear of falling in love (due to her mother's tragic experience), Ivo's tendency towards infidelity, and his "official" girlfriend, Andrea (Mariana Arias). At the same time, Victoria (Verónica Vieyra) was being courted by Morgan, her chauffeur, and Bobby, a friend of Ivo. However, Victoria was not interested in either of them and had occasional relationships with other people. She even tried to marry Juan Cruz, a political party employee, but canceled the ceremony upon discovering he was a married man.
Federico Di Carlo and his wife Luisa hate each other, are unfaithful, and know it, but Di Carlo does not divorce her or allow her to do so for appearances but mainly for political reasons: Luisa owns a significant portion of the shares of their family company. Luisa's brother Damián had a traumatic accident many years ago: by driving drunk, his wife, his son Pablo's girlfriend, and the son himself were killed, and Pablo was left paralyzed. Since then, Pablo deeply hates his father and does not forgive him for what happened, spending several years locked in his room, with the butler Bernardo being the only one allowed to see him in his self-imposed seclusion. Pablo managed to walk again, but out of revenge against his father, he remained in his room pretending to still be disabled, although he would go out disguised as a beggar. Eventually, Milagros entered his room and he fell in love with her, due to her striking resemblance to his deceased girlfriend, and her insistence convinced him to leave the charade behind and come out of his room, although he still did not forgive his father.
